What does a website cost?
There is no price list, because no two jobs are the same: four pages and a phone number you can tap is not the same thing as a site that takes bookings. What is fixed are the three ways to pay for it: a setup fee plus a monthly one with nothing tying you in, a single payment, or half up front and the rest on delivery. I tell you which it is and how much, in writing, before you decide anything, and I do not start until you have seen it.
How long does it take?
It depends on the job, but what decides it most is that I take few jobs at a time. That makes for a longer calendar than an agency's, with far less dead time in it, because you are not queued behind six other clients. If you have a date that will not move, say so in the first email and I will tell you the same day whether I can make it.
Who do I deal with?
Me. Penedo Labs is one person: Efrén Rodríguez. There is no account manager and nobody hands you off once the work starts. Whoever answers your email is the one writing the code, and you get an answer in a day or two.
Do you work in Galician?
Yes. Galician, Spanish and English, both to talk and for the site itself. If your customers are from here, a site in Galician tends to go down better than people expect, and almost nobody does it.
What happens if the site breaks?
You find out. Everything breaks sooner or later; what costs you is it breaking quietly, with the first person to notice being a customer who cannot reach you. What I build reports its own errors. Almost nobody asks for that, and it is the part I care most about.
Will I need it rebuilt in two years?
The idea is that you will not. I use boring dependencies I expect to still be there in five years, and skip the framework that came out last month. It is dull, and it is exactly what lets you change something in two years without paying to redo the whole thing.
Can I edit it myself afterwards?
Yes, and I write down why things are the way they are so whoever picks it up next can follow them — that may well not be me. If you would rather not touch anything, that is fine too.
Do you only work in Ames and Santiago?
That is where I can meet in person without it being a trip. The work itself is done just as well remotely, so if you are somewhere else, write anyway.
Do you build apps as well?
Yes. There are several running — MapToArt, Inquly, Vestava, Vecindad Ames — and you can see them on the home page. But an app is almost never what a local business needs: if a website solves it, I will say so.
What do you need from me to start?
Not much: what you have now (even if that is nothing), what you would like, and whether there is a date involved. With that I can tell you whether it fits, how much and when. Write to hello@penedolabs.com.
